Chapter 49: Making Dinner

I slept until about eleven the next day before getting up, throwing on a pair of sweat pants and trudging through the snow to the school nurse. I was sniffling from the cold by the time I got there, so it didn’t take a whole lot of acting to make the nurse think I actually had a cold. She gave me an excuse for the two days I was going to miss of school, telling me I would need to drop the form off at Professor Firestone’s office when I felt better.

I ventured back to my dorm and after unpacking, I was so damn bored I actually did some cleaning. In the end, our dorm didn’t look any better.

Thomas was running late, he was supposed to be home, school was over, and there was no sign of him.

I showered and changed into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, thinking that if Thomas got back in time we could hang out or something before dinner.

I plopped down in the arm chair in the living room, picking up the game controller and started playing.

I was interrupted by a soft knock at the door. I glanced at the clock. Thomas was late, totally not like him.

I frowned, why Thomas wasn’t using his key?

“Hey, jerk, did you forget your key or something?” I asked, yanking open the door.

Olivia was standing nervously at the door, holding a yellow-mesh shopping bag.

“Hey, Liv.” I quickly corrected myself. “Sorry, I didn’t know it was you… what’s up?”

She drew in a deep breath. “Nothing much, really. I thought I’d drop in, you know? See if you wanted some dinner maybe.” She held up the shopping bag.

“Sure, come on in.” I opened the door for her and let her in. She walked past me in a pair of skin tight black leggings, that made her legs look amazing. She had on a soft pink shirt that was long and worn as a dress. She had a black cardigan on over top. The top half of her hair was pulled up and back, while the bottom half hung in her perfect curls around her shoulders.

I swallowed thickly, watching her walk into the room. She even had on a pair of heels. It wasn’t fair that she was looking so absolutely incredible.

“So uhh… what are we having?” I asked.

“I thought I’d make a pizza.” She answered, placing her bag on the counter. “From scratch.” She smiled at me.

“Sounds great.” I agreed. “Uh… I don’t know where Thomas is tonight… he might be home soon…”

Olivia frowned. “I ate lunch with him today, he said he has a chess club meet tonight. They’re testing each other or playing against each other or something?” She frowned.

“Oh, makes sense.” I nodded. “Can I get you a drink or something? A coke or water or something?”

“Coke is good.” She nodded.

I reached a can from the fridge and opened it for her. I opened my own can and took a drink from it. “Anything I can help with?” I asked, watching as she removed the items she had brought. “You could chop up the tomatoes for the sauce…” She offered.

“Alright.” I picked up the cluster of tomatoes and brought them to the other counter. I pulled out the sharpest knife in the drawer and started slicing the tomatoes.

I had barely finished three of them before I noticed that Olivia had already made the dough and was carefully kneading it onto a round cooking sheet. She preheated the oven and smiled at me. “How are you doing?” She asked.

“Good… I’m a little slow, I guess.” I shrugged.

She smiled. “That’s okay. Take your time.”

She started grating cheese.

I wanted to ask her some serious questions about what we were doing, and where our relationship was sitting. It felt like things were hanging by a thread, but right now, it was a little like old times.

She stood next to me and was chopping green peppers.

I was watching her and not what I was doing, and I felt the knife slice into my finger. The acid from the tomato leaked into my finger and it burned. “Ow, fuck!” I cursed, dropping the knife.

Olivia crossed the kitchen immediately, grabbing my hand. “Are you okay?” She demanded, she reached for the paper towel and pressed a wad of it to my thumb.

“Liv, it’s alright.” I insisted. “Just a little cut.”

“Come here, rinse it out before it gets infected.” She pulled me by the thumb over to the sink, and ran the water.

Olivia was frowning over the cut, but I was focused on her. She was so close, and I was distracted by the fruity scent of her.

“On the plus side, it’s not that bad.” She mused. “Just a lot of blood.”

She looked up at me, and suddenly the proximity seemed to make her uncomfortable. “Umm… do you have a band aid or something?” She asked, moving away slightly.

“In the bathroom. I’ll get it.” I said. I removed my thumb from under the water and wiped it on my pants. “It’s not really that bad.”

I ventured into the bathroom and grabbed a band aid. I didn’t really need it, but it would probably appease her.

I walked back into the kitchen. Olivia was cleaning up the drops of blood.

“Here, let me finish that.” I said.

By the time I had everything cleaned up, Olivia had finished chopping the tomatoes and was mashing them into the sauce.

“Okay, what can I do?” I asked.

“Do you want to cut up some mushrooms?” She asked.

“Sure. Here’s hoping I can keep the rest of my fingers?” I quipped.

Olivia smiled briefly, and started placing the sauce on the pizza dough. She sprinkled it with cheese.

“Uhh… how many of these mushrooms do you want me to chop up?” I asked.

“That should be good.” Olivia answered. “Do you like green pepper on your pizza?”

I shrugged. “I’ll eat anything.”

She smiled briefly and before long, she was sliding the pizza into the oven. I very subtlety watched her bend over, tilting my head to watch her perfect legs and ass in her tights.
